Why is there such a large variance in price? The short version: boils down to what is included in the package you want and where you are getting the service performed. Packages can include anywhere from a 1-year ceramic coating to a 10-year ceramic coating. 10-year ceramic coatings are also known as “lifetime” ceramic coatings since most things in the automotive industry are based on a “lifetime” of 10 years for warranty purposes. Some ceramic coating packages include paint restoration, anywhere from a one-step “paint enhancement which can take from 4 hours to 8 hours… up to a 2 or 3-level paint correction which can take 2 or more days! Some ceramic coating packages include only the preparation and coating without any paint restoration.
In regards to where, from personal experience and experiences from some clients… Dealerships tend to be the most expensive for ceramic coatings. The range at dealerships can vary from $2,500 and up (without performing paint enhancement, correction, or additional coating options). If you trust your dealership, the product you are paying for, and the technician working on your car, they are generally the easiest place to have them done when signing the paperwork for your new vehicle. Other options include detail shops and mobile detailing businesses that specialize in paint correction and ceramic coating installation at your residence, warehouse, or place of business.
Yes. The fact of the matter is we choose to spend thousands, if not, tens of thousands of dollars on a vehicle we want. Whether it’s brand new or used, over time the paint becomes worn and dull from delivery transport, everyday use, overzealous washing techniques, environmental factors, and a list of other reasons. This not only diminishes the look of your vehicle but also lessens the value during resale or trade-in! After all, what is the first thing we see on vehicles? The exterior and the luster of gloss and care that it has – or the lack of it!
Example: With a professional 7-year ceramic coating, 97.8% of original surface brilliance is retained after 7 years, compared to 26.2% without one. This means long term you’re adding 71.6 % more gloss to your vehicle, for a fraction of the amount you purchased your vehicle for! “Eye candy!” Besides the visual aesthetics of a ceramic coating, with your ceramic coating installation, you get car-fax registration for the service completed! Optional warranty add-ons are available as well!
If you are not yet sold on this, imagine if you purchased two vehicles of the same kind and the same year (in roughly the same condition). Paint correct and ceramic coat one and not the other. Which one will sell for a higher value? Well, the one with more luster and with paint in great shape is going to be worth more. It’s the whole reason vehicles are painted and clear-coated with a wide range of color options – Aesthetics.
Ceramic coating and paint correction may be popular for the high-end performance vehicle, but should also be put on your daily driver vehicles. After all, these are the vehicles that are going to get exposed to the elements day in and day out. Causing a much quicker rate of wear on the paint.
